I recently made a poetry thread that was locked, next to which was placed a comment about it consisting of spam. It was a game thread with the goal being to post the most pathetic/hilarious poem you can come up with. Now however, my game thread is ruined and there wasn't even a chance given to me or jest to defend it from "You R teh spamx4rs!"insults.. What I’m really trying to get at is locking threads sucks. It just ticks off everyone involved because they know they can’t defend themselves in it anymore. The last poster has the power to post something like “YOUR Thread SUCKS!" and "You are the biggest gaffe I've ever met!” and you are powerless to do anything about it. Of course I am a gaffe that goes without saying; but I find the idea of one not being able to defend oneself, nor ones thread for that mater, very vexing...

Ah, that is why ProBoards has a private messaging system.

Some debates should be public don't you think?

Shouldn't there be some audience to which can look upon the topic and discuss with us, or, at the very least, have a thread so people can discuss the swearing issue outright? It doesn't make sense to me to simply use an IM system when a newbe could come on, such as myself, and not understand where peoples ideals stand on the subject, and thereby, post a story or a poem with swearing in it.

That's why I have a thread devoted to rules for the forum, and there has been a rule added on the language issue. Perhaps you should read it.

I have read it, and I agree with it. The other side didn't seem to finish putting their input in though. Slightly unfortinate not to get to see the rest of the debate since it was interesting. =P
